Lactose Free Whey Protein

People who are lactose intolerant are those who develop allergy when taking lactose or the type of carbohydrate found in milk. This medical condition is diagnosed early during infancy and children usually outgrow this condition. However, several people do not develop nutritional tolerance towards lactose even as they mature and there are a few others who develop severe types of lactose intolerance that may actually lead to fatal complications. These people are not allowed to take any form of milk or milk products.

The avoidance of milk in the diet deprives a person of the important vitamin and minerals that are present in milk and milk products. When an individual fails to meet his daily nutritional requirements, his body also fails to function properly. His immune system is weakened and he becomes highly susceptible to infections and other diseases.

To provide lactose intolerant individuals with the necessary nutrition, food supplement manufacturers have designed special formulations of food products that are devoid of lactose. An example of a highly nutritious food supplement fit for these individuals is the lactose free whey protein. Health drinks with this active formula are sometimes cholesterol-free for added benefit of reducing cardiovascular risks.

Like the regular whey protein food supplements which come in the form of shakes or concentrates, lactose free whey protein food products help in muscle gain and in boosting the body’s energy level and immune system. These provide lactose intolerant people the complete health benefits of whey protein without causing gastrointestinal discomfort, diarrhea and other symptoms that affect daily life activities.

Lactose free whey protein food supplements are manufactured through the process called micro filtration. This process uses a ceramic filter to remove fat, carbohydrate and lactose from whey and isolate and purify whey protein. For every 100 grams of whey powder, 94 grams of protein is recovered which is relatively free of lactose, carbohydrate and fat. This final product is ideal in formulating food supplements fit not only for lactose intolerant individuals but also for those who are under the Atkins diet and other ketogenic diets.

The development of lactose free whey protein food supplements has provided a good option for lactose intolerant people in meeting their daily nutritional requirements of vitamins and minerals. Increasing their consumption of whey protein is very ideal in maintaining good health and well being. Life becomes normal and they gain strength and endurance to participate in sports and other social activities that they were usually deprived of. Besides this, lactose free whey protein food supplements are also very appealing in terms of palatability. In the food market, these food products have gained much popularity not only among the adults but also among the young and aging population.
